Playing for Change - Peace Through Music

Thanks to all of you who attended the film debut and to all of you who volunteered to make this showing possible!

KPOV screened “Playing for Change: Peace Through Music”—a film that brings together musicians, singers, and audiences around the world.  It was shown for the first time in Oregon on Thursday, March 11, at the Domino Room.

The 84-minute documentary was well received by audiences at our two benefit screenings.  This movie is inspirational and worth your time and KPOV is pleased to have been able to bring it to Bend.

Thanks to all the people who helped make these showings possible:

A special thanks to Creig and Rhoda Jones, and the Domino Room for providing a great venue; and Kris Arnold for providing fearless leadership. Thanks to Jacquie Elliott and the Center for Car Donations for sponsorship and for putting together the slide show. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at the event: Michael Funke, Kathryn Wood, Joe Leonardi, Joe Katroscik, Aylett Wright, Stacy Totland, Marcia Koff, Diane & Johanna & Jamie Luckett, Brett Yost, Julie Wharfield, Ron Boozell. And also to the poster-hanging crew:

Creig , Michael F, Jacquie, Joe M, Gregg, Ned , Kate, Marcia, Stacy, Kris, Ryder, Julie & Randy.

“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” takes viewers around the world—from North America to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and back again—with musicians and singers merging their music into an inspirational tapestry with such songs as “Stand By Me,” “One Love,” “War/No More Trouble,” and many more, all with the idea of bringing peace to the world through music.

PBS television host Bill Moyers calls “Playing for Change” a remarkable example of “the simple yet transformative power of music.” The film was produced over several years with a mobile recording studio and cameras. More information is available at www.playingforchange.com.

“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” was the Audience Award winner at the 2008 Woodstock Film Festival, Best Song winner at the 2008 Roxbury Film Festival, and an official selection at 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and the 2008 Jerusalem Film Festival.
