Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

Bend Community Radio proudly presents

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones w/ special guests Alash

A Benefit Holiday Concert for KPOV

Mountain View High School Auditorium
Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 7 pm

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday October 27th.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones draw on bluegrass, jazz and fusion influences to create a unique, modern improvisational style of music. They mix together Bela Fleck’s acoustic and electric banjos, the bass and percussion rhythm section of brothers Victor Wooten and Futureman, and the saxophone of Jeff Coffin in music sometimes dubbed “blu-bop.

Alash—guest artists on the Flecktones “Jingle All the Way” holiday CD—are masters of Tuvan throat singing, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. The four members of the group also play traditional instruments from their native land in Siberia and toured with the Flecktones in 2008 and 2009.

Their musical diversity has won Bela Fleck and the Flecktones awards and nominations in categories ranging from jazz and pop to gospel and classical to bluegrass and country. The recipients of multiple Grammy Awards going back to 1998, Bela Fleck’s total Grammy count is 11 Grammys won, and 27 nominations. He has been nominated in more different categories than anyone in Grammy history.
“Jingle All the Way” won the 2009 Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental.
