Full+Power

You hear those words a lot on KPOV.  But have you ever stopped to think about what they really mean?

You have the power to call a real live human and request a favorite song.  You have the power to take KPOV with you anywhere on the planet using your computer or iphone.  You have the power to volunteer and make the station sound the way you want it to.

KPOV truly is radio by and for the people of Central Oregon.  That’s listener power.

You know that KPOV has the power to enlighten, to entertain and to engage.  Now KPOV needs a new kind of power—full power.  4,800 watts of it!  And we need your help to get it.

Why does KPOV need to go full-power?

We believe Central Oregon needs a regional, noncommerical radio station for several reasons.

  • Central Oregon is a set of communities linked by jobs, health care, higher education, transportation systems and cultural and recreational opportunities.  A regionally focused, noncommercial radio station can help connect our region’s citizens through a low-cost, accessible and ubiquitous technology.
  • Central Oregonians deserve more in-depth coverage of our community and KPOV can provide it.  Both OPB and KLCC have strong local listenership and they connect locals to statewide and national events.  But those stations will never devote significant air time to Central Oregon’s stories because the vast majority of their listeners live outside our region.
  • Local news and civic affairs coverage by our local commercial media is in significant decline, due to media consolidation and the loss of advertising revenue that has traditionally subsidized news and civic affairs programming.  Public broadcasting stations like KPOV, however, are thriving and stepping in to fill the news void left by commercial media in many markets.

Stay tuned for updates!
