Arlo Guthrie Concert Report

Arlo Guthrie Delights Crowd of 1,100 and Raises $29,000 for 106.7 KPOV

Legendary folk singer and storyteller Arlo Guthrie delighted a crowd of over 1,100 fans April 3rd, spinning hilarious stories and playing his best known songs—including the timeless classic “Alice’s Restaurant.”

Guthrie brought his Solo Reunion Tour—Together At Last to the Bend High School auditorium in a special benefit concert for 106.7 KPOV.
The benefit netted over $29,000 for Bend Community Radio—thanks to over three dozen businesses, organizations and individuals who sponsored the concert, close to 50 KPOV volunteers who worked to make the concert a success, and the thousand-plus people who came out to see Arlo. People came from all across Central Oregon, from the Willamette Valley, Washington and Northern California, and from as far away as New Jersey and North Carolina.

Local musician David Bowers performed as people arrived at the auditorium, KPOV’s newly-elected Board President Mike Ficher welcomed the crowd and Arlo Guthrie kicked off his performance with “Chilling of the Evening.” The audience laughed and cheered as he told a hilarious story leading up to his famous “Motorcycle Song,” clapped appreciatively as he broke into “St. James Infirmary,” applauded his classic rendition of Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orleans,” and sang along with Arlo on his father Woody’s anthem, “This Land Is Your Land.”

KPOV thanks all the sponsors who provided financial and in-kind contributions to the Arlo Guthrie Benefit Concert: The Source, Bend Broadband, Suzanne Johannsen and Peter Geiser of Ameriprise Financial, Chapter 6 of the Oregon School Employees Association, Baptista Tile & Stone Gallery, Blizzard Kelly Enterprises, Central Oregon Jobs with Justice, D&D Bar & Grill, Deschutes Brewery, Great Harvest Bread Co., Green Appraisal Services Inc., Hendrix Brinich & Bertalan LLP, JR’s Body & Paint, Duane McCabe, lawyer, The Riverhouse, Saxon Jewelers, Slothower & Petersen P.C.
